Kimberly
Brown, Ph.D., CEO and President
Kimberly Brown
worked for Cell Systems, Inc. as a contractor to the Pilot
Bioproduction Facility (PBF) at Walter Reed Army Institute of
Research for nine years. Kimberly authored the
Validation Master Plan for the facility and the Calibration
program. Her responsibilities included management of the
calibration of 2000 instruments; validation for processes,
equipment, and software including sterilization assurance,
endotoxin removal, high purity water systems, microplate
readers, aseptic processing, and critical cleaning
applications; clean room commissioning; and management of the
environmental monitoring system. Kimberly increased the
productivity and efficiency of Cell Systems, Inc. by creating
a series of computer programs to manage the FDA regulated
activities at the PBF.
Kimberly Brown
purchased Cell Systems, Inc a biotechnology service company
that was established in 1992. The company’s name was
changed to Amethyst Technologies, LLC. Amethyst
Technologies, LLC has expanded in size and capabilities since
the acquisition.
In order to
stay at the forefront of regulatory guidelines and industry
practices, Kimberly Brown serves on technical committees for
the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) and the American Society
of Testing Materials (ASTM). She has assisted with the
development of technical reports for sterilization,
validation, and process analytical technology. Kimberly
Brown is an active member of numerous industry related
organizations.
Kimberly Brown
obtained a Ph.D. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the
University of Maryland, College Park. While at
University of Maryland, she received a GEM fellowship and
Sloan fellowship. She performed her undergraduate
studies at the University of Delaware and received a B.S. in
Chemical Engineering with two minors, Mathematics and
Linguistics. As an undergraduate student, Kimberly’s
research received accolades including GTE Fellowship’s Award
of Highest Distinction in Engineering and Rohm and Haas’
Most Outstanding African American in Undergraduate Research
(finalist). Currently, Kimberly Brown is a participant
in the ACTIVATE
program for women entrepreneurs at the University of Maryland
Baltimore County.
Community
service and activism is a priority for Dr. Brown. In
2006, she was appointed by the Anne Arundel County Executive
to the Commission for Women and the Minority Business
Enterprise Committee. She continues to support her Alma
Mater, University of Maryland College Park, by serving on the
Engineering Alumni Board. In addition to the
aforementioned organizations, she is a member of numerous
other organizations.
